Sisters’ Journey Receives $10,000 Yale Cancer Center Community Leadership Grant
Thursday December 18, 2023
Sisters’ Journey is proud to be one of three Connecticut community organizations awarded a $10,000 Community Leadership Project Grant from Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital.
The Community Leadership Project Awards support community-led programs that address cancer prevention, health education, screening awareness, and barriers to cancer care. The initiative also strengthens partnerships between trusted community organizations and Yale researchers, helping ensure that community voices and experiences are included in efforts to improve cancer research and care.
Eileen Esdaile accepted the award on behalf of Sisters’ Journey and its project plan.
Sisters’ Journey received the grant alongside two other community organizations: Community Action Agency of New Haven, Inc., represented by Tiffany Robinson, and the Sister Girl Foundation, represented by Shantana Hazel.
The organizations were welcomed and recognized by Eric Winer, MD, Director of Yale Cancer Center and President and Physician-in-Chief of Smilow Cancer Hospital, and Marcella Nunez-Smith, MD, MHS, Director of the Center for Community Engagement and Health Equity.
This award supports Sisters’ Journey’s continued commitment to encouraging, empowering, and educating our community while promoting cancer awareness, prevention, and screening.
