Naima B. Mosley

Cont.
I had a friend who was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer and as I was interceding for her, I felt an unction that I should get checked. I
kept saying “God, what is this?” I kept brushing it off, but the feeling would not leave. Six months later, I finally went to my doctor and
asked if he could refer me for a mammogram. He scheduled one for me, and I found out that I had breast cancer, and it was Stage 0. I
didn’t have any signs to alert me of the diagnosis – no lumps, redness, soreness, itching or oozing at the breast. I had a nipple and areola
sparing mastectomy, no chemotherapy or radiation. I had to take tamoxifen for the next five years.
In 2018, I noticed a bump on my chest wall. They tested it, and it was breast cancer, Stage 1. I had chemotherapy and radiation this time.
Because of the re-occurrence within four years of the first diagnosis, they stopped me from taking Tamoxifen and they put me on Letrozole,
and that is what I am currently taking.
I was 36 years old when I was first diagnosed. It has been a total of 11 years survivorship.
My support system was great! What really meant the world to me was that my Apostle and Pastor, along with other church family, traveled seven hours to be with me when I had surgery at the Cancer Treatment of America in Atlanta, Georgia. My husband, my mother, my father, my mother-in-law, father-in-law, and my siblings all were such a great support system and were with me every step of the way. I struggled with the thought of losing my hair. This may sound vain, but I could handle everything else but losing my hair. That was the hardest part for me. My brother, Corey Bobbitt, cut all his hair off to support me when I lost mine. I am grateful to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If it weren’t for Him, I would not be here today. I know it was Him who unctioned me to go get checked. I bless Him because I am still here to see my son reach different milestones in his life. He was seven when I was first diagnosed and 11 with my second diagnosis. On June 12, 2025, he will be 19 years old. He has been my strength and one of my biggest supporters. I also bless God for my husband, Dequane Mosley.
